Almost 20 years ago in college, I began listening to Zig Ziglar tapes in my pickup truck. It was a difficult time in my life and Zig not only helped motivate me to move forward, but also introduced me to a career path where you can do great work by helping develop others. I had the pleasure of meeting him in person and visiting his home outside of Dallas about 15 years ago – and was blessed that he agreed to be part of a project during my doctoral studies as well.
Zig is perhaps best known for his most famous quote, “You can have everything in life you want, if you'll just help enough other people get what they want.” In every way, he lived that quote each day and blessed tens of thousands of people throughout his life.
I have referred to Zig's lessons countless times in my career and personal life and his name has come up often in conversations with clients and friends. I'm unsure I would be where I am today without his influence.
My heart sank when I saw the news that Zig passed away earlier today. My deepest condolences to his wife Jean and entire family on this tremendous loss.
Did Zig influence your life too? I'd love to hear about it in the comments below.
